The Birth of SoulSalt
Academy
As a public school teacher during the 90’s
I slowly yet surely became aware that I didn’t fit in the
world of academics. The unique and innovative methods of empowering
students to learn via inquiry based learning tracks were NOT welcome
in the bureaucratic environments of the public schools of that time.
As I contemplated taking my skills to business, where I perceived
they paid people to think outside the norm, it was suggested that
I hire coach to make the transition.
I did hire a coach and within the first session
I was captivated by the fluid nature of this coach’s workday.
I was enamored by the personal development and depth of this individual.
I wanted whatever it was, whatever invisible competence and character
she had. I could sense more than see something very attractive about
her presence. I wanted to be like her. I pulled money from my savings
account, signed up for training at CoachU and never looked back.
Mind you this was 1998 and coaching was still toddling
around through the market place on unsteady, stubby legs. People
would say things like, “So you are a coach. Do you coach soccer
or gymnastics?” Puzzlement often followed when I told them
I was a business coach.
Being a graduate of CoachU with a small but successful
practice coaching people in the evening and morning bookend hours
of my “regular work week” got noticed. Soon I was able
to move inside Franklin Covey (my first corporate position after
academia) from a product developer position to Associate Director
of a Project Management office. I used my coaching skills in this
position to assist the office in accruing four Million dollars of
value in nine months because projects were getting completed on
time and under budget.
My track record there, as well as completing my
MCC (Master Certified Coach) with the ICF (International Coach Federation),
drew the attention of the Franklin Covey Coaching group. I was asked
to become the Director of Innovation for them and rewrite their
coach-training program. From there, I moved to Legacy Learning LLC
to fulfill the same role.
I loved training people how to coach. I entered
the coaching field initially because of the personal development
it offered. I found myself earning a living at it only two short
years later. But even more surprising was to see how acutely competent
I was in distilling the separate skills and components of coaching
and transferring them to others.
“I have been fortunate enough to be exposed to many types
of high level trainings, some therapy and done a lot of self study
in the past but no one has impacted my life so positively, so quickly
and with such lasting results as Lyn Christian.”
Pamela Peplow, Salon Consultant and Coach
”Lyn,
Watching you as my trainer during the three-day live event and on
several webinars that followed was an inspiration to me. I consider
your coaching genius to be priceless. Watching you coach and train
our group alone was worth the entire tuition I paid for the full
year's program. I learned so much about coaching from watching you
model the process you were teaching all of us.
I've been coached and trained by Thomas Leonard, and I've graduated
from other coach training programs and this is the first time I
was able to identify a clear process that I could consciously recreate
with confidence. Your coaching skill within this unique coaching
framework gave me a model that has increased my competence as a
coach.”
Mary L. Duwe, CFP Strategic Coach
”Lyn is a coach’s coach. Undeniably
this is a key market for her strengths and passions.”
Rich Tafel – Political Strategist,
Washington D.C.
Shortly after launching the coach training program at Legacy Learning
LLC, I retired from corporate citizenship to devote all my time
and energy to my own coaching company, SoulSalt Inc. (named by my
clients). At SoulSalt my practice became 100% referral within 18
months. I then found I had more clients than I could handle so I
started mentoring people to help me service these clients.
This year we formally launch the coach training
program that belongs to SoulSalt Inc. I admit it, I’m a geek.
I’m a coach-technology geek, which means I love handing people
the small, bite-sized tools and skills that have fueled the performance
boosting practice of hundreds. This natural talent has also placed
me as a top earner within the ranks of ICF Certified Coaches. I
know the business side of coaching and even more, I live, love and
teach the minute details of how to coach well.
Here are the reasons people are signing up for coach
training at SoulSalt Academy today:
“It is a huge shift for engaging in just for
self-development. However, I’ve been able to earn while I’m
learning and more than pay for my tuition.”
“The training has helped me be more productive
in my life, my business and my relationships.”
“I was hungry for something more meaningful
and permanent, and SoulSalt took me there.”
“I was sick of my job, I wanted something
with passion. I wanted a ‘sexy’ job and this one fits
that bill.”
“SoulSalt Academy is growing in leaps and
bounds with Lyn. As the founder and CEO of the company to have her
as your trainer is an unprecedented gift.”
