Magic
Lyn T. Christian, PMP, MCC, CFCC

The holidays seem to be a time when we allow ourselves to be more open to the possibility of magic. We talk of miracles and stories of the past. We share our hopes. We nudge our imaginations closer to the elements that dreams are made of. We plan beautiful moments of coincidence. We give freely. We receive. We laugh, sing, and cry.

And yet, as this particular season descends, I feel separated from the emotions once held near during December. I’m a fan of the love, warmth, and added joy the holidays are known for. I absolutely delight in picking out a tree and decorating it. I devise surprises and gifts for my loved ones. I ritualize the day we bake sugar cookies. Yet this year, I’ve found myself out of the mood. I’ve wondered what has changed? What shifted?

I’m extremely grateful that the answer to my inquiry has come to me so quickly. Peace of mind arrived almost like gift-wrapped offerings in two separate conversations with women I hold close to my heart. One said “Lyn you are starting to believe in magic as a way of living. You are learning that this era of your life is about the play between you and miracles. All the magical aspects, like a shooting star, a double rainbow, an extra grin at the check-out counter are coming to you on a regular, organic basis.” The other said, “Wondrous possibilities are now becoming your expectations, not your exceptions. You are letting go into a bigger possibility where you don't need the holidays to be your main source of magic.”

You know, I believe they are right! I have been opening my heart and myself to everyday magic. Like a child, I’m daily lifting my arms and looking upward, fully accepting miracles and magic like big, fluffy flakes during a flurry.

What if the holidays were just practice, just a warm-up for finding magic all year long?

That is exactly what they could be if we are willing to do a few things. Here’s what my spiritual mentor has urged me to do:

First, I’m keeping my heart open unconditionally to love everyone and everything. I’m replacing judgment with unconditional compassion. Than I’m asking myself these two questions on a regular basis:

What do I want to be real? Our answer will then become our reality.
What do I want to believe? Answer this and that is what will be.

Warmth, love and magic to you all.

Lyn
