It's the Middle of Summer! Do You Know Where Your Planner Is?
Lyn T. Christian, PMP, MCC, CFCC

Can I just say this straight out?

We shouldn't try to judge our importance by how long our "task list" is.

Okay, now that I have that out of the way, let me say this:

Time management is not just about doing more or less. Time management is about doing the right things at the right time.

100% of us need a friendly review of our planning practices. So, before the summer season ends and fall reminds us to get back to school or back to basics or back to something or other, let me share a note about planning.

Meaningful living requires that we do four things in terms of planning:

1)

Use a filter system that keeps you on track about what gets in your planner. DO NOT (as much as possible) put things in your planner that don't sustain, support or feed you in some manner. DO plan according to your values, your dreams, and your needs.

2)

Have a planner and planning system. Make everything connect to one hub so you avoid double entries and so you can find things quickly.

3)

Hold weekly planning sessions. Take less than five minutes to review what you need to accomplish before the week ends. Write it down.

4)

Hold daily planning sessions. Take less than three minutes each day to review what needs to be done according to your weekly planning and what has popped up since yesterday. Prioritize when possible so you get the most important tasks completed each day.

The main reasons to use a planning system are twofold:

·

Find what you need when you need it

·

Stay on schedule and avoid missing appointments

Here's wishing you the best of everything wonderful that this season has to offer.
