| Do you believe in destiny? I believe in destiny. I believe that in this world it took a man named Jim Henson to create a character named Kermit to teach us about our own destiny. Who can’t remember Kermit singing to us about how “It’s Not Easy Being Green?” Our destinies are green, ready to grow. Most of us struggle to let this part of us out - this part of us that is more real than anything else about us. Fearing the changes our destiny may call us to make, we hide our green parts away from sunshine and nutrients. And yet in all of us there are green, destiny parts waiting. Dormant. Maybe there is an engineer dreaming of being an artist, a schoolteacher imagining herself as a scientist, an executive hungry to be a stand up comedian. Maybe there is a comedian dreaming of becoming an executive! We are all alike. We all have hidden parts. In my case, one of my green parts manifested herself as the woman, who loved other women. And I can tell you it’s been quite a journey for me to, at long last, let destiny lead. I believe the road I have traveled to complete honesty about who I am and what my passion is about is a universal journey. It is the same journey we all must take if we are to walk toward our own destiny. We first must be willing to be aware, and this awareness often leads to longing to become our authentic selves. And sometimes that longing leads us to flirting with new possibilities, and then to dating, or trying on the experience of our true selves. Inevitably, this journey takes us to loving - our new selves, our unearthed passions. And often with loving there is some loss, enough that we are called to resurrect -- to rise again and journey through the cycle once more - the cycle of human passion and dreams. This month, I want to invite you to read about my personal cycle through this universal path of destiny. We have titled the book Fearless Kisses. My hope is that it might inspire you to embark on your own fearless journey toward destiny. At times, I can admit that I’ve found out just how NOT easy it is to be my own version of green, but, ultimately, I have found the great joy of living in the integrity of who I was destined to become. I want this for you. So if by unzipping and exposing one of my personal journeys of the heart can help you begin to reach for your own silent voice, the one waiting to learn how to it feels to become your own shade of green, then I have fulfilled my purpose.
